*Trident is a nuclear weapons system of 18 nuclear-powered submarines, each of which is on hair-trigger alert to launch its nuclear-armed missiles. Each Trident submarine carries the equivalent destructive force of at least 1,000 Hiroshima bombs. The D-5 is a Trident missile that the Navy wants to install on four of the eight Bangor-based Trident submarines to replace the older C-4 misiile. Each D-5 costs $60,000,000 and could kill millions of people.
